Shoigu : Armament and equipment in the army every year is becoming more complex and expensive. This means that it requires not only a professional, but also a sober attitude. At the conference call at the Russian Ministry of Defense on Tuesday, questions were raised on measures to counter the spread of narcotic drugs in the Armed Forces.
– Together with law enforcement agencies, we are actively working to prevent drug users from joining the army. The preventive system in place in the Ministry of Defense made it possible to minimize the number of drug addicts among military personnel. The personnel undergo mandatory checks for drug use, – said Shoigu , opening the conference call.
It should be noted that only those who have been tested for drugs at the military commissariat are called up to the advanced units of the Russian army. In the army, all military personnel undergo regular medical checks, which also detect illegal drugs. The unit commander has to send for examination to the medical unit any subordinate who is suspected of being in contact with persons who sell prohibited substances.
– Over the past year, more than eight hundred thousand such surveys have been conducted. Certainly, a lot is being done. Today we will discuss measures that will make this work even more effective,” Shoigu said.
One of such effective measures in the army turned out to be anti-drug campaigns conducted by professional athletes. They work in the army as instructors, participate in public councils, set a personal example for servicemen.
– The Russian team at the Beijing Olympics (to be held in China from February 4 to 20) consists of almost a third of CSKA athletes. I am sure that they will adequately represent the country at the Games, – Shoigu emphasized and sincerely wished the athletes good luck and good results.
