Skier Natalya Nepryaeva became second in the skiathlon and brought the team of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) the first medal at the Winter Olympics in Beijing.
The Russian woman was ahead of the Austrian skier Teresa Stadlober by 0.3 seconds. Norwegian Teresa Yohaug became the Olympic champion, she showed a time of 44:13.7, 30 seconds ahead of her nearest rivals.
As part of the skiathlon, skiers cover half the distance in a classic course, after which they change skis and the second half go in skating.
